Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need equipment to start? No. Each club has bowls available for new members to use free of charge.
How much does it cost? Each club is independent and has its own membership structure. Typically year long memberships range from $200 to $300 per YEAR. That's hard to beat. And remember that gives you access to your club to play virtually anytime you want. There are other memberships available too, like social memberships that are well under $100 per year. There can be some tournament fees which are additional but those are usually less than $30.
Do I need to be athletic to bowl? This is the best part about the sport, no you do not need to be athletic. Lawn bowling is one of the rare sports where gender, athleticism and ability don't really matter. Even if you have a hard time with your flexibility, there's special equipment made just for you. You decide on how lawn bowling fits into your life.
Why do so many seniors lawn bowl? Lawn bowling is a sport you can play and love throughout your life. You will meet people of all ages as you do in pickleball, curling, yoga or golf. Many clubs are enjoying a surge of 20- and 30-year-olds joining for the same reason pickleball has become so popular. We are passionate about growing our multi-generational sport and engaging our communities with a healthy, active and social interaction.
What do lawn bowling clubs offer besides Lawn Bowling? Many clubs offer croquet, potlucks, game/cards, yoga and more. Most clubs have a club house that can be used to unite members to socialize.
When is lawn bowling season? Primarily spring, summer and fall. You will see members on the greens anytime of year if the weather permits. Most clubs enjoy indoor/mat bowling during winter months in addition to other year-round events like potlucks and yoga to name a few.
